Why oil a timber deck every dry season when WPC decking in Kenya never needs varnish?

WPC decking is a wood plastic composite board made for outdoor floors around pools, balconies, rooftops and gardens. At Excel Deco, heavy duty WPC decking boards cost KSh 2,999 per board. Each board measures 2.9m x 14cm x 25mm.

WPC decking board, 2.9m x 14cm x 25mm, heavy duty: KSh 2,999 per board
Cover per board, 2.9m x 0.14m: about 0.4 sqm per board
Boards per square metre, before frame, clips and cuts: about 2.5 boards per sqm

That works out at roughly KSh 7,500 of boards per sqm of deck. Send us your deck size and we will count the boards for you.

Where does WPC decking in Kenya work best?

Pool surrounds: no splinters under bare feet.
Balconies and rooftops: laid on a frame so rain drains away underneath.
Garden paths and patios: a warm wood look that will not rot in the long rains.
Not for: laying straight onto soil. It needs a level frame on a firm base.

Picture a family in Runda whose pool deck splinters under bare feet every dry season. Composite boards give the children a smooth edge to sit on and the adults one less job every year.

WPC decking questions

What is composite decking in Kenya made of?

WPC boards mix wood fibre with plastic. You get the look of timber without the rot, cracks and termites.

Does it need painting or oil?

No. Wash it with water and a soft brush when it gets dusty.

Does it get hot in the sun?

Like any deck, it warms up in direct midday sun. Lighter colours stay cooler than dark ones.

How many WPC decking boards do I need?

Divide your deck area in square metres by 0.4 and add about 10 percent for cuts.

Can you do outdoor decking in Nairobi apartments?

Yes, on balconies and rooftops, as long as the frame keeps a slight fall for drainage.

Planning a full outdoor space? Pair your deck with Artificial Grass and read the artificial grass price guide. For indoor floors see SPC Flooring or all Flooring.
