What a blinds installation job includes
A blind is only as good as the way it is measured and hung. A lovely fabric on a crooked bracket still looks cheap. So we treat every order as one job from start to finish. We measure, we make the blinds to size, we deliver and we fit.
Here is what that covers:
- Measuring every window in the room, inside and outside the frame, so we can advise which fit suits your wall.
- Choosing the fabric with samples held up in your own light, not under shop bulbs.
- Making each blind to size, so nothing is cut down on site with a hacksaw.
- Fixing the brackets, hanging the blind and setting the chain so it runs smoothly.
- A short handover where you test every blind yourself.
We fit roller, zebra, vertical, venetian and bamboo blinds across Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado. Fitting labour depends on the number of windows, the wall type and how high we are working. That is why it is quoted after measuring and sent on WhatsApp together with the blind prices.
Before the fitter arrives: how to prepare the room
A little preparation saves a lot of time on the day. Most of it takes ten minutes.
- Clear the window sill and the floor below it. The fitter needs to stand a ladder close to the wall.
- Take down old curtain rails or broken blinds if you can. If not, tell us so we plan time to remove them.
- Tell us about the wall. Concrete, block, gypsum and timber all take different fixings. If you know a pipe or cable runs above the window, say so.
- Check with your caretaker if you live in a managed block. Many apartments in Kilimani, Westlands and Kileleshwa only allow drilling at set hours.
- Have power nearby. Our drills need a socket within reach of the windows.
Still deciding between styles? Read roller vs zebra vs vertical blinds before the visit. It makes the sample chat much quicker and you will know what to ask.
On the day: how blinds are fitted step by step
Once your blinds are made, the fitter comes back with them and the fixings. A typical visit runs like this.
- Match each blind to its window. Every blind is labelled by room, so the bedroom blind does not end up in the kitchen.
- Mark the bracket positions with a spirit level. Many Nairobi window openings are not perfectly square, so we level the blind, not the plaster.
- Drill and plug the wall with fixings that suit the surface. We clean up dust as we go.
- Clip the blind into the brackets and set the chain on the side you chose.
- Fit the chain safety clip low on the wall where there are small children.
- Run every blind up and down to check it rolls straight and stops where it should.
Most bedrooms are done in a morning. A two bedroom flat with five or six windows usually takes most of a day. Tall windows, stairwells and offices with long runs of glass take longer. We plan that time when we quote so nobody is rushing at five o’clock.
Inside or outside the frame: which fit suits your window
This is the first choice the fitter talks through with you. It changes how the window looks for years.
Inside the frame means the blind sits within the window opening. It looks neat and tidy and leaves the wall around it clear. It works well when the opening is deep enough for the bracket and the blind clears the handles. You will see a thin line of light down each side, which is fine for living rooms, kitchens and offices.
Outside the frame means the blind is fixed on the wall above the window and is wider than the opening. It covers the gaps, so it is the better choice for bedrooms where you want the room dark. It also hides frames that are out of square and clears burglar bars and handles easily.
A few quick rules of thumb from our fitters:
- Bedrooms and nurseries: outside the frame, usually in a blackout fabric.
- Kitchens: inside the frame, so the blind stays clear of the counter and the cooker.
- Sliding doors: outside the frame or vertical blinds that stack to one side. See blinds for sliding doors.
If you plan to measure yourself first, our guide on how to measure windows for blinds shows both methods.
Blind prices to plan with
Blinds are priced per square metre of finished blind. For a rough figure, multiply the width by the drop and then by the price. Take a bedroom window of 1.5 by 1.5 metres. That is 2.25 sqm.
| Blind type | Price per sqm | Example: 2.25 sqm window |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical | KSh 1,799 | KSh 4,048 |
| Zebra | KSh 3,399 | KSh 7,648 |
| Blackout zebra | KSh 3,799 | KSh 8,548 |
| Sunscreen roller | KSh 3,499 | KSh 7,873 |
| Blackout roller | KSh 3,999 | KSh 8,998 |
| Aluminium venetian | KSh 5,499 | KSh 12,373 |
| Bamboo roller | KSh 5,999 | KSh 13,498 |
These are materials only, rounded to the nearest shilling. Fitting is quoted after measuring. A blackout zebra blind costs KSh 3,799 per sqm if you want the zebra look with a dark room. Common problems our fitters solve in Nairobi homes
Every estate has its own quirks. These are the ones we meet most often and how we handle them.
- Openings wider at the top than the bottom. We measure in three places and fit to the smallest width inside the frame. Or we mount outside the frame to hide the difference.
- Burglar bars close to the glass. Many windows have grilles on the inside. We check the depth so the blind clears the bars. If not, we fix it above the frame.
- Handles that catch the blind. Sliding and casement handles can stop a roller halfway. We measure the handle depth and set the bracket further out.
- Gypsum ceilings. Ceiling mounts need solid support. We find it before we drill.
- Light leaking round bedroom blinds. For proper sleep we usually suggest a blackout fabric fitted outside the frame with a good overlap. Our bedroom blinds page explains why.
- Very wide office windows. Long glass is often split into two or three blinds so each stays light to pull. See office blinds in Nairobi for typical layouts.
What to check before the fitter leaves
Do not sign off until you have tried every blind yourself. Use this quick checklist.
- Each blind rolls up and down straight without drifting to one side.
- The bottom rail sits level when the blind is fully down.
- Zebra bands line up when open, so you see clean stripes.
- Vertical slats turn together and stack neatly to the side you chose.
- The chain hangs on the side you asked for and is clipped safely.
- No bracket moves when you pull the chain firmly.
- The fabric is clean, with no marks from handling.
- Drilling dust has been wiped off the sill and floor.
If something is not right, say so there and then. Small adjustments take minutes while the tools are still out. If you notice something later, send a photo on WhatsApp to 0757 753 748 and we will look at it.
Looking after your blinds in Nairobi dust
Dust settles fast in Nairobi, especially near busy roads like Ngong Road and Thika Road. A little care keeps blinds looking new for years.
- Roller and zebra blinds: run a soft brush or a vacuum on low over the fabric once a week. Wipe marks with a damp cloth and mild soap, then let the blind dry fully before rolling it up.
- Vertical blinds: dust the slats from top to bottom. Kitchen slats can take a damp cloth.
- Aluminium venetian: close the slats and wipe one side, then turn them and wipe the other.
- Bamboo: keep it dry. Dust it with a brush and never soak it.
In the long rains, close windows during storms so wet fabric does not roll up damp. Want to see the fabrics first? Visit our showroom at Summit House on Moi Avenue or book a measuring visit and we bring samples to you.
- Every blind is measured on site and made to size before it is fitted.
- Vertical blinds start at KSh 1,799 per sqm and zebra at KSh 3,399 per sqm.
- Fitting is quoted after measuring because it depends on windows, walls and height.
- Most bedrooms are done in a morning and a two bedroom flat in about a day.
- Test every blind at handover and report anything on WhatsApp 0757 753 748.

Questions buyers ask
How much does blinds installation cost in Nairobi?
Fitting is quoted after measuring and sent to you on WhatsApp. The blinds themselves start at KSh 1,799 per sqm for vertical and KSh 3,399 per sqm for zebra.
How long does it take to fit blinds?
Most bedrooms are done in a morning. A two bedroom flat usually takes most of a day, depending on how many windows there are and how high they sit.
Can you fit blinds where there are burglar bars?
Usually yes. We measure the gap between the bars and the glass and if it is too tight we fix the blind above the frame instead.
Do I need to be home when the blinds are fitted?
Someone should be there to let the fitter in and test each blind at handover. A caretaker or house manager can do it if you brief them.
Do you install blinds outside Nairobi?
Yes. We measure, supply and install across Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado. We also courier blinds to other towns.
Can I fit the blinds myself?
You can if you are handy with a drill and a spirit level. Measure carefully, because a blind made to the wrong size cannot be stretched to fit.
