Blackout blind on a window measured by an Excel Deco fitter
Every window measured before a blind is made

Why measure before you buy

Buying finishes off a guess is the most expensive way to do it. Order a blind 3cm too narrow and light leaks down both sides forever. Order carpet a little short and you pay for a second cut with a join in the middle of the room.

A measuring visit takes the guessing out. Our fitter measures every space with the right tools and spots problems you would not think to check. Things like:

  • Windows that are wider at the top than the bottom.
  • Burglar bars and handles that get in the way of blinds.
  • Floors with dips, hollow tiles or damp patches.
  • Doors that will scrape once a new floor goes down.
  • Walls with damp or loose plaster behind a planned feature wall.

It also helps when you are mixing products. Where SPC meets carpet at a bedroom door, the two need to finish at a sensible height. A blind needs to clear a feature wall beside the window. Measuring everything together means these meeting points are planned, not discovered on fitting day.

You get the right quantity, the right product for each room and a clear quote. That saves money and saves a second trip to town.

How to book your visit

Booking takes a few minutes on WhatsApp.

  1. Message 0757 753 748 or email info@exceldeco.co.ke.
  2. Tell us what you want done. For example, blinds for four windows and SPC for two bedrooms.
  3. Share your location pin and the estate or building name.
  4. Send a few photos of the rooms and windows. This helps the fitter bring the right samples.
  5. Pick a day and time that suits you.

We confirm the visit details on WhatsApp when you book, including the day and the fitter coming. If you live in a gated estate or managed block, let the gate or caretaker know to expect us.

Prefer to see things first? Our showroom at Summit House on Moi Avenue is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm.

What the visit covers

One visit covers every room and window you want done. You do not need separate trips for floors and blinds.

  • Windows: width and drop of every window, the frame depth, bars and handles. Read blinds installation for what happens next.
  • Glass: every pane for window film, plus partitions and doors.
  • Floors: room sizes, the base under the floor, level, damp and door heights. See SPC flooring installation and carpet fitting.
  • Walls: width and height for fluted or PU stone panels, plus sockets and switches.
  • Outdoor spaces: balconies, gardens and rooftops for artificial grass, including drainage.
  • Gyms and work areas: zones for rubber tiles, rolls and mats.

The fitter also brings samples so you can see colours and fabrics in your own light.

What to have ready

A little preparation makes the visit faster and the quote more accurate.

  • Access to every room on the list, including bedrooms and store rooms.
  • A clear path to the windows so the fitter can measure the full frame.
  • A rough idea of style. Screenshots or a Pinterest board help a lot.
  • Your budget range, so we can suggest the right product for each room.
  • Landlord or building approval if you rent or live in a managed block.
  • Your timeline, such as a move in date or an Airbnb opening.
  • Drawings for new builds or office fit outs, if you have them.

If you are finishing a new house, our interior finishing checklist helps you decide what to measure now and what to leave for later.

What happens during the visit

  1. A quick walk through. The fitter goes round with you and notes what you want in each room.
  2. Measuring. Every window, floor and wall on the list is measured and written down room by room.
  3. Checking the base. Floors are checked for level and damp. Walls are checked for soundness.
  4. Samples. You look at fabrics, floors and finishes in your own light.
  5. Advice. The fitter tells you honestly what will and will not work, such as which rooms need blackout or where a door may need trimming.
  6. Questions. Ask anything about fitting days, preparation and care.

You do not need to make any decisions on the spot. The visit is for measuring and advice. Take your time with the quote afterwards and talk it over with your family or your client.

A small flat usually takes under an hour. A large house or office takes longer, depending on how many rooms and windows are on the list.

How the quote follows

After the visit, we put your quote together and send it on WhatsApp. It sets out:

  • Each room with the product, size and materials cost.
  • Fitting, quoted for your actual job.
  • Delivery, where it applies.
  • Any preparation work the fitter found, such as levelling a floor.

Every figure in the quote ties back to a measurement taken in your home, so you can see exactly where each number comes from. If something looks off, ask and we will walk you through it. Prices on the quote reflect our current list, last updated October 2026.

Read it at your own pace and ask questions on WhatsApp. You can change products room by room to fit your budget. Once you are happy, confirm the order and pay by Mpesa as agreed. We then agree a fitting date.

If your budget is tight, tell us. We can show you where a lower priced product makes sense, such as vertical blinds at KSh 1,799 per sqm in a store room. We also show where it pays to spend more, such as blackout in the main bedroom. You can also phase the work and do the bedrooms now and the living room later.

We deliver same or next day in Nairobi for stock items. Blinds are made to size after you confirm, so we give you the fitting date when you order.

Measuring yourself first

Some people like a rough figure before they book. That is fine. It helps you plan your budget. These guides show how:

Send us your rough sizes on WhatsApp and we can give you a materials estimate straight away. For anything made to size, like blinds, we still measure on site before we make them. That way a small mistake on a tape measure never becomes an expensive one.

For landlords, designers and contractors

If you manage several units or run projects for clients, we can measure a whole block or a full fit out in one go. You get one quote per project, broken down by unit or room. That makes it easy to compare options and sign off with your client.

Architects, interior designers, contractors, property managers and Airbnb managers can also join our trade partners programme. Trade pricing and referral terms are agreed with each partner.

For new builds, we can measure at the right stage so finishes are ordered in time without being measured too early. Windows are best measured once frames are fixed. Floors are best measured once the screed is down. Tell us your programme and we will suggest the right moment for each.

Whatever the size of the job, the first step is the same. Message us on WhatsApp 0757 753 748 with what you want done and where you are.
