Is laminate flooring in Kenya the cheapest way to get a timber look without a timber bill?

Laminate is a wood look plank with a printed decor layer on a dense fibreboard core that clicks together over a thin underlay. Excel Deco sells laminate flooring at KSh 1,799 to KSh 1,999 per sqm in 8mm, 8.3mm and 12mm, with 1mm underlay at KSh 4,999 per 50 metre roll.

Which laminate flooring in Kenya do I need?

8mm or 8.3mm: bedrooms, studies and rentals where the budget matters most.
12mm: living rooms and offices where you want a firmer, quieter floor.
Not laminate: bathrooms, laundry rooms or any floor that gets mopped wet every day. Choose SPC there.

Picture a young couple renting in Kileleshwa who want warm bedrooms before the cold July mornings. Wooden laminate flooring in the bedrooms and SPC in the kitchen gives them comfort where they sleep and peace of mind where they cook.

Laminate flooring questions

Is laminate waterproof?

No. It is water resistant, so a quick spill is fine if you wipe it up. Standing water at the joints will make the core swell.

Do I need underlay?

Yes. Every laminate floor needs underlay. One 1m x 50m roll covers 50 sqm.

Can laminate go on a ground floor slab?

Yes, on a dry and level screed with underlay. If the slab gets damp, choose SPC instead.

How do I work out the cost?

Multiply length by width, add 10 percent for cuts, then multiply by the price per sqm. Our flooring price per square metre guide shows the same sums for SPC.

Laminate or SPC?

Laminate floors in Kenya suit dry rooms and tighter budgets. SPC suits kitchens and busy homes. Compare them in SPC vs vinyl vs laminate flooring.
