Which film for which glass
The right film depends on what you want the glass to do. Here is a quick guide.
| Film | Price | What it does | Where it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frosted film | KSh 599 to 799 per metre | Blocks the view, keeps the light | Bathrooms, office partitions, front doors |
| One way reflective film | KSh 999 per metre | Mirror look outside in daylight, cuts glare and heat | Street facing offices, shops, west facing homes |
| Blackout film | KSh 999 per metre | Blocks light and view fully | Store rooms, server rooms, back windows |
One thing surprises many people. One way film works when it is brighter outside than inside. At night, with lights on indoors, people outside can see in. Our guide does one way window film work at night explains it simply. For a side by side look at all three, read frosted vs one way vs blackout film.
What happens at the measuring visit
A fitter comes to your home or office and looks at every pane you want covered. In one visit we:
- Measure each pane of glass, not just the window frame. Many windows have several panes of different sizes.
- Check the glass for cracks, old film and stubborn paint or sticker marks.
- Ask how you use the room, so we know if you need privacy all day, only at certain hours or mainly against heat and glare.
- Show samples on your own glass so you see the real effect in your light.
- Talk through design options for offices, such as a frosted band at eye level or a logo cut into the film.
For offices we also check how the glass is used through the day. A partition beside a corridor may only need a frosted band at eye level, which saves film and keeps the space bright. A meeting room facing a busy open plan area usually needs full cover. Shop fronts often want glare control without hiding the display. These choices change how many metres you buy, so it is worth talking them through with the fitter while they are at your glass.
Film is sold per running metre off the roll. After the visit we work out how many metres your panes need, keeping offcuts low. You receive a quote on WhatsApp with the film and the fitting set out clearly.
Preparing the glass and the room
Film sticks best to clean glass in a calm room. Here is how to help us.
- Clear the sill and the area in front of the windows so the fitter can reach the whole pane.
- Take down blinds or curtains on the windows being filmed. If you cannot, tell us so we plan time for it.
- Remove stickers if you can. If there is old film, let us know when you book because removing it adds time.
- Switch off fans near the windows on the day. Moving air carries dust onto the wet film.
- Plan around the weather. Outside panes are best done on a dry day. We reschedule if heavy rain is on the way.
In offices, it helps to book the work for a quieter day or a Saturday morning, since partitions in meeting rooms cannot be used while the film settles.
How film is applied step by step
Our fitters follow the same careful routine on every pane.
- Deep clean the glass with a scraper and a cleaning solution, right into the corners. Any speck left behind shows as a bump.
- Cut the film slightly larger than the pane.
- Wet the glass with a slip solution so the film can be slid into place.
- Peel the backing and lay the film onto the wet glass, lining it up with the edges.
- Squeegee out the water from the centre to the edges to remove bubbles.
- Trim the edges with a sharp blade, leaving a tiny even gap at the frame.
- Final squeegee and wipe to push out the last of the water.
A small office partition or a bathroom window takes well under an hour. A whole office floor or a house of windows takes a day or more. If you prefer to do a small window yourself, our guide on how to apply frosted window film walks you through it.
Worked examples with real prices
Here are two typical jobs worked out as materials cost. Fitting is quoted on WhatsApp after measuring.
A meeting room partition in an Upper Hill office. Say the glass needs 8 metres of frosted film at KSh 799 per metre. That is 8 x KSh 799 = KSh 6,392. Using the lower priced frosted film at KSh 599 per metre, it is 8 x KSh 599 = KSh 4,792.
A west facing living room in Kileleshwa. Say the windows need 10 metres of one way reflective film at KSh 999 per metre. That is 10 x KSh 999 = KSh 9,990. It cuts the afternoon glare and gives daytime privacy from the road.
A bathroom window. Small bathroom panes often need just 1 or 2 metres of frosted film, so the materials cost is KSh 599 to KSh 1,598.
These are examples only. The exact metres depend on your pane sizes and the roll width, which we confirm after measuring. For a fuller look at costs, see window film price in Kenya.
Common problems our fitters solve
- Bubbles and specks. These come from poor cleaning or rushed work. Our fitters clean every pane twice and squeegee carefully.
- Old peeling film. We strip it off and clean away the glue before new film goes on.
- Glass partitions in busy offices. We work section by section so the office can keep running.
- Privacy at night. If you need privacy after dark, frosted film or blinds are the answer, not one way film alone.
- Branded glass. Logos and frosted bands are popular in reception areas. We cut them from frosted film and quote them after seeing the glass.
- Safety on large panes. For glass in doors and low windows, look at security and safety window film.

Handover checks and aftercare
Look at every pane from both sides before the fitter leaves.
- No large bubbles or creases.
- Edges are trimmed straight with an even small gap.
- No dust specks trapped under the film.
- Logos and bands sit level and at the agreed height.
- Sills and floors are dry and clean.
A slight haze or a few tiny water spots in the first days is normal. They clear as the film dries. The fitter tells you how long to wait before cleaning the filmed side. After that, clean with a soft cloth and a mild soapy solution. Avoid scrapers, rough sponges and strong cleaners on the film side.
In Nairobi dust, a gentle wipe every week or two keeps frosted film looking crisp.

How long does it take to apply window film?
A bathroom window or small partition usually takes under an hour. A full office floor or a house of windows can take a day or more.
