Worked examples

  • One matatu aisle, 5 metres: about KSh 6,500
  • Shop ramp, 3 metres: about KSh 3,900
  • Fleet of ten vans: a full roll often works out cheaper. Ask us.

Picture a fundi in Kariobangi buying two metres for a pick up bed. It cost less than a tyre and stopped tools sliding around.

Full roll or cut lengths: where the line falls

Coin mat 2mm costs KSh 1,299 per metre. A full roll costs KSh 29,000. So when does the roll win?

Divide KSh 29,000 by KSh 1,299. The answer is about 22.3. If your job needs 23 metres or more, the full roll costs less than buying by the metre. Ask us the length on the roll before you order so you know it covers your job.

  • Church aisle of 15 metres: 15 x KSh 1,299 = KSh 19,485. Buy by the metre.
  • Two matatus at 4 metres each: 8 x KSh 1,299 = KSh 10,392. Buy by the metre.
  • A fleet of six vans at 4 metres each: 24 x KSh 1,299 = KSh 31,176. The full roll at KSh 29,000 saves you KSh 2,176.

Fleet owners and Sacco managers often land in that last group. See our tips on coin mat for matatus and buses.

Which coin mat to choose

There are three coin floors in our range. Each one suits a different load.

TPE coin mat 3mmKSh 3,499 per sqmIndoor floors where you want a softer, cleaner finish

Take a garage of 6 by 3 metres. That is 18 sqm. Workshop grade coin flooring costs 18 x KSh 2,799 = KSh 50,382 at the lower price and 18 x KSh 2,999 = KSh 53,982 at the top. If you prefer interlocking tiles for a garage, compare with our garage floor tiles.

Where coin mat earns its keep

  • Matatus, buses and pickups. It covers worn metal and is easy to wash out at the end of the day.
  • Shop counters and shelves. A strip stops tins and bottles sliding and protects the wood.
  • Ramps and stairs. It adds grip on smooth concrete, as long as it is fixed down well.
  • Car wash bays. Staff stand in water all day. See our car wash mats page for options.
  • Workshops. Use the workshop grade for jacks, trolleys and tools.

Laying coin mat yourself and keeping it clean

The 2mm coin mat is easy to lay at home or in a vehicle. Follow these steps.

  1. Sweep and wash the floor. Let it dry fully.
  2. Unroll the mat and leave it flat for some hours so it relaxes.
  3. Mark your cuts with chalk. Measure twice.
  4. Cut with a sharp knife against a straight metal edge.
  5. Fix edges and joins with a suitable adhesive or strong double sided tape so they do not lift.
  6. Trim around seats, doors and bolts last.

For thicker workshop flooring and big floors, ask us about laying. The cost is quoted on WhatsApp.

Coin mat traps mud in the gaps between the coins. Sweep it daily in the rains. Wash it with water and mild soap once a week, or more in a matatu. Keep petrol and thinners off it. Dry it before you lay it back so water does not sit underneath.
