Which film gives privacy at night?

Frosted film and blackout film. Frosted film works like sandblasted glass. It blocks the view both ways at every hour while letting daylight through, which is why it is the standard choice for bathroom windows, meeting rooms and the glass between offices. One way film only works while it is brighter outside than inside. After dark with the lights on, the mirror effect reverses and people outside can see in. If you want one way film on a bedroom, pair it with blinds.

Which film reduces heat?

One way reflective film and solar heat tint. Excel Deco’s solar heat tint rejects up to 70% of solar heat and blocks up to 99% of UV, which keeps west facing rooms cooler in the afternoon and slows fading on sofas, carpets and floors. One way reflective film gives a similar effect with a mirror finish. Frosted film does little for heat because it is designed to pass light. Blackout film blocks heat along with everything else, which suits a store room but not an office.

Which film for an office?

Frosted film on internal partitions and meeting room glass. It gives privacy without making the office dark and it can be cut with the company logo or name for reception glass. Solar heat tint or one way film on the external glass that faces the afternoon sun, so staff near the windows are not squinting at screens. Blackout film on server rooms and any room used for presentations where total darkness is needed.

Which film for a home?

Frosted film on bathroom and toilet windows, on glass doors and on any ground floor window that faces a path. Solar heat tint on bedroom windows that bake in the afternoon. One way film on upper floor windows where you want to look out over the estate without being seen by day. Blackout film only where a room must be fully dark, for example a home cinema.

How is window film installed?

The glass is cleaned, the film is cut to size on site, floated on with a slip solution and squeezed flat. A home or small office takes a day. The film looks slightly hazy for 7 to 10 days while it cures. Do not wash it during that time. Supply only film comes in 1.2m wide rolls for clients with their own fitters or for towns outside Nairobi.

Where do these prices come from?

All prices are Excel Deco’s prices, last updated October 2026. Fitting is quoted on WhatsApp from a photo of the glass. See the range on the window film page.

Which window film is cheapest?

Plain frosted film is the cheapest at KSh 599 to KSh 799 per metre. One way, blackout and patterned frosted are KSh 999 per metre.

How wide is the film roll?

Frosted film comes 1.2 metres wide and reflective film 1.5 metres wide. Both are sold per running metre. Wide glass takes two or more drops side by side.

Can I see the three films before I buy?

Yes. Visit our showroom at Summit House, Room 9, Moi Avenue, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm.

Mixing films in one home: a worked example

Most homes need more than one film. Each one does a different job. Here is a typical flat in South B, using rolls at least 1.2 metres wide.

  • Living room, glass 2.4 by 1.5 metres facing the road. One way film for day privacy and heat: 3 metres x KSh 999 = KSh 2,997.
  • Bathroom, a small window. Plain frosted for privacy day and night: 1 metre x KSh 599 = KSh 599.
  • Front door glass panel. Patterned frosted for a decorative touch: 1 metre x KSh 999 = KSh 999.
  • Store room window. Blackout film to keep the room dark: 1 metre x KSh 999 = KSh 999.

Total film: KSh 5,594. Fitting is quoted on WhatsApp. For room by room advice see window film for home privacy.

Choosing film for a shop or salon

A shop on Moi Avenue has different needs from a home. You want people to see in, but not everywhere.

  • Display window. Leave it clear or add a frosted band with your name at eye level. Customers still see the stock.
  • Treatment or changing room. Full frosted film so nobody sees in, day or night.
  • Back office. One way film if it faces a bright street and you work by day.
  • Stock room. Blackout film to hide stock and keep sun off it.
  • Glass partitions. Frosted film works best indoors. See frosted film for office glass.

Mistakes people make when picking film

  • Buying one way film for a bathroom. At night with the light on, the room is on show.
  • Using blackout where you want daylight. Blackout kills all light. Frosted keeps the room bright.
  • Expecting film to stop a break in. Privacy films are not safety film. Read about security window film if that is your worry.
  • Not looking at other options. Sometimes a blind or a band of film is enough. Our guide on ways to make clear glass private lists them all.

Questions people ask about window film

Can I see out through frosted film? No. You see light and shapes, not detail. For a view, choose one way film.

Does one way film work at night? Not on its own. Once it is brighter inside than outside, people can see in. Add blinds for bedrooms.

Which film is best for heat in Nairobi? Solar heat tint, with up to 70% heat rejection. One way reflective film is the next best.

Can frosted film be branded? Yes. Excel Deco cuts logos and company names into frosted film for office reception glass.

Can I install film myself? Small panes, yes, with patience. Large shopfront glass is best left to installers because creases cannot be removed.
