Frosted film, the usual answer

It blurs the view from both sides at all hours and the room stays bright. It costs the least and fits in minutes. Most office partitions in Nairobi use it in a band at eye level.

When you want the view

Reflective film keeps your view out and stops people seeing in during the day. Add blinds if night privacy matters.

When you need control

Blinds give privacy on demand. Zebra blinds let you choose between light, view and privacy with one pull.

Cost of each option for one window

Take a typical sitting room window, 2 metres wide and 1.5 metres high. That is 3 sqm of glass. Here is what each option costs for that one window.

Film is the cheapest way to make glass private. Blinds cost more but you can open them. Fitting for both is quoted on WhatsApp.

Remember fitting on top. For film, fitting is often a small share of the cost on a single window. For blinds, measuring and fitting matter more because the blind must sit straight in the frame. Send a photo and the glass size on WhatsApp for both quotes.

The right answer for each kind of glass

  • Bathroom and toilet windows: frosted film. It works day and night and lets light in.
  • Bedroom facing another block: frosted film on the lower half, with a blind for night if you want full cover.
  • Living room on a busy road: reflective film for daytime privacy and the view. Add a blind for the evening.
  • Office glass partitions: frosted film as a band or full pane.
  • Shop front: reflective film or branded frosted film with your logo.
  • Glass sliding door to a balcony: a vertical or roller blind you can open. See blinds for sliding doors.

Kitchen window facing a neighbour’s kitchen: frosted film on the lower half keeps the light where you cook and wash up.

Mistakes people make making glass private

  1. Trusting one way film at night. When the lights are on inside, people outside can see in. Plan night cover.
  2. Frosting glass you love looking through. Frost only the lower half and keep the view above.
  3. Cheap stick on paper. It peels in the sun and leaves a sticky mess.
  4. Forgetting the small high window. Bathroom vents and toilet windows are often the ones neighbours look into.
  5. Measuring the frame instead of the glass. You pay for film you cut off.

If you are not sure which option suits a window, stand outside in the day and again at night. Look in. What you see from the street is what your neighbours see.

Using film and blinds together

Many Nairobi homes get the best result from two layers. Film works all day without you touching anything. A blind gives control in the evening and on hot afternoons.

  • Frosted film plus a sunscreen roller: private day and night. The blind cuts glare too.
  • Reflective film plus a zebra blind: view and privacy by day, then close the zebra at night.
  • Frosted lower half plus nothing: the simplest fix for a bedroom that only needs cover at bed height.

Questions buyers ask

What is the cheapest way to make glass private?

Frosted film at KSh 799 per metre, applied in minutes.

Can I get privacy and still see out?

Yes by day with one way film. At night you need blinds or frosted film.

Can you do a pattern or logo?

Yes. We cut logos, stripes and patterns into frosted film.

Do you install?

Yes across Nairobi. Send a photo of the glass on WhatsApp for a quote.

Can I make only the bottom half of a window private?

Yes. Frosted film can be cut to any height, so you keep the view and light above while the lower half stays private.

Is film or a blind better for a rental?

Film is usually better for renters. It needs no drilling and peels off when you move.

Does frosted film let light through?

Yes. It softens the light but the room stays bright, which is why it is popular for bathrooms.
