Take a galley kitchen of 2.4 by 3 metres. That is 7.2 sqm. Round up to 8 sqm to cover cuts.

The trouble spots in every kitchen

• Under the sink: slow leaks sit unseen for weeks. A waterproof floor like SPC copes far better. Read is SPC flooring really waterproof.
• By the cooker: hot oil and a dropped sufuria can mark any vinyl. Keep a mat nearby and lift pans, never drag them.
• The gas cylinder: put it on a small board so the steel base does not dent the floor.
• The fridge: slide it on cardboard when moving it in or out.
• In front of the sink: you stand here longest. An anti fatigue mat at KSh 3,799 eases tired legs.
• The back door: rain and mud come in here. Add a door mat inside so grit does not scratch the floor.
• The pet bowls: water splashes daily. A small mat under the bowls keeps the floor dry.

Mistakes in kitchen floors

1. Peel and stick on a greasy floor. It will not hold. Degrease and dry the floor first. Our peel and stick vinyl page explains the prep.
2. Floor under the cabinets. Lay up to the cabinet base. There is no need to pay for floor nobody sees.
3. Too dark or too light. Mid tones hide crumbs and dust between mops.
4. No threshold strip. A neat trim where the kitchen meets the living room stops edges lifting.
5. The cheapest floor in a busy kitchen. Peel and stick suits light use and rental kitchens. A family kitchen with daily cooking is better on SPC.

Ask for skirting or a neat edge trim where the floor meets the wall. It hides the small gap at the edges and stops crumbs and water from collecting there.

What to check on delivery

• The box count matches your order.
• All boxes show the same batch so the colour matches.
• Board corners and click edges are not broken.
• You have a few spare planks for later repairs.
