Every blind we sell is made to measure. You pay for the area of the blind, not per window. The table below shows our current rates. They include the fabric or slats, the head rail and the chain or cord.

How to work out the cost of your windows

Measure the width and the height of each window in metres. Multiply them to get the area. Multiply the area by the rate for the blind you want. That is your price.

Most blinds go outside the window recess so they cover the frame. Add about 10cm to the width and 15cm to the height when you measure for an outside fit.

Small windows have a minimum charge because the rails and mechanism cost the same whatever the size. Ask us for the minimum when you send your sizes.

Zebra blinds: the Nairobi favourite

Zebra blinds have stripes of sheer fabric and solid fabric on one roll. Line the sheer stripes up and light comes in with a soft view out. Offset them and the room goes private. One pull does both.

That is why they suit open plan apartments in Kilimani, Kileleshwa and Westlands where the living room faces the neighbours. They also photograph well, which matters if you run an Airbnb.

Roller blinds: sunscreen or blackout?

Roller blinds are one flat sheet of fabric that rolls up into a tube. The fabric decides what they do.

• Sunscreen fabric has a fine open weave. It cuts glare and heat but you can still see out in the day. Offices love it because screens stay readable.
• Blackout fabric has a coated back that stops light. Bedrooms, nurseries and night shift workers need it.

Vertical blinds for offices and sliding doors

Vertical blinds hang in slats from a track. They slide open like curtains and tilt to angle the light. At KSh 1,799 per square metre they are the cheapest way to cover a wide window or a sliding door.

Offices, schools and banks choose the heavy duty version at KSh 5,499. Its slats are thicker, its track is stronger and single slats can be replaced when someone pulls too hard.

Bamboo and venetian blinds

Bamboo roller blinds bring a natural, warm look. They filter light rather than block it, so they suit balconies, verandas and holiday homes in Naivasha or Diani. At KSh 5,999 per square metre they are our most premium blind.

Aluminium venetian blinds have horizontal metal slats that tilt. They do not mind steam or splashes, which makes them right for kitchens, bathrooms and clinics. They cost KSh 5,499 per square metre.

Blinds vs curtains: which costs more?

Curtains look cheap per metre of fabric but they need two to three times the window width in fabric, plus a rod, rings and tailoring. Blinds use exactly the window area.

What else affects the price

• Motorised blinds cost more for the motor and remote. Ask for a quote.
• Very tall windows above 2.5m need stronger rails and a ladder crew.
• Many windows in one order often bring the rate down. Offices and developers get a single quote.
• Fabric colour rarely changes the price, but some special fabrics take longer to arrive.
• Location outside Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado may add transport.

Dust them weekly. Wipe roller and zebra fabric with a damp cloth. Venetian slats can be washed with soapy water.

Are blinds cheaper than curtains?

Usually yes, because blinds use only the window area while curtains need two to three times the width in fabric.
