What happens to your shopfront glass when someone throws a brick at it?

Blackout window film from Excel Deco Nairobi

Who uses it

  • Banks and forex bureaus on teller glass and street facing panes
  • Shops and showrooms with large display windows
  • Schools and daycares on glass doors and low windows
  • Homes on sliding doors and ground floor windows
  • Offices on glass partitions near stairs

How it works

A thick, clear polyester film bonds to the inside of the glass. When the glass breaks, the pieces stick to the film instead of falling. It slows a break in and stops injuries from flying glass.

Fitting

Our fitters measure, clean the glass and apply the film with a wet method so there are no bubbles. Most shopfronts are done in a day.

Where safety film matters most

  • Shop fronts: big panes on Moi Avenue and Tom Mboya Street take knocks from crowds, carts and the odd stone.
  • Ground floor windows: the glass most likely to be hit in a break in.
  • Glass doors: the panel people walk into most.
  • Classrooms: windows at the height of children and balls.
  • Banking halls and offices: large glass walls near busy entrances.
  • Homes: sliding doors and windows in children’s rooms.

Glass breaks for many reasons that have nothing to do with crime. A ball in the school compound, a strong gust in the April rains or a ladder knocked against a shop window can all do it. Safety film keeps the broken pieces stuck together, so the mess stays in the frame instead of on the floor and on people.

Schools have a special reason to look at it. Children run, play and throw things close to windows every day. A cracked pane covered in film can wait for the fundi without shards falling on a class.

What it can do and what it cannot

Safety film canSafety film cannot
Hold broken glass togetherStop bullets
Cut injuries from flying shardsMake glass unbreakable
Slow down a quick smash and grabReplace grilles or a guard
Stay clear so the view staysFix cracked or loose glass

Think of it as one layer of protection. It works best with good locks and grilles on the ground floor.

Safety film also buys time. A thief who expects one hit to clear a window meets glass that cracks but holds. That noise and delay is often enough to make them give up. On its own, it is not a replacement for grilles, alarms or a night guard.

Adding privacy or heat control

Safety film can be combined with other film, so one visit does two jobs.

  • A shop that bakes in the afternoon sun can pair it with solar control film.
  • An office on a busy street can add one way film for daytime privacy.
  • A bathroom or clinic room can add frosted film for privacy day and night.

For the price of each film on its own, see window film prices in Kenya.

If you only need safety on the lower panes of a shop front, fit clear film there and a reflective or branded film on the upper panes. You get protection where knocks happen and privacy or branding where people look.

Getting a quote quickly

Safety film is quoted per square metre on WhatsApp. To get a fast and accurate figure, send:

  1. The width and height of each pane of glass, not the frame.
  2. A photo of each window or door.
  3. The building type: shop, school, office or home.
  4. Which floor the glass is on.
  5. Whether you want clear film only or combined with tint or frost.

Message 0757 753 748 or email info@exceldeco.co.ke. Schools and shops can ask for fitting after hours so the work does not stop trade or lessons.

Before fitting, check that the glass is sound. Film cannot fix glass that is already cracked or loose in the frame. Replace that pane first, then film it.

For a shop, the main cost driver is the number and size of panes. A single large window is quicker to fit than many small ones of the same total size.

Questions buyers ask

Is security film bulletproof?

No. It holds broken glass together and slows entry. It does not stop bullets.

Can it be combined with tint?

Yes. We fit combined safety and solar films or layer them.

How much does it cost?

It is quoted per square metre based on the thickness. Send the glass sizes on WhatsApp.

How long does it last?

Ten years or more on interior surfaces.

Can safety film go on glass that is already fitted?

Yes, it is applied to the inside of the existing glass. There is no need to remove the window.

Will people notice the film?

Clear safety film is hard to see once fitted. Your view and light stay much the same.

Do you fit safety film outside Nairobi?

Yes. Excel Deco fits across Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado. For other towns, ask on WhatsApp.
